Welcome to this weeks edition of the newsletter. I will share a helpful tool to gauge and share your podcasts success, the top questions of the week and some behind the scenes.
Tool or Resource of the Week
This week, I suggest exploring Listen Notes, a straightforward website that monitors podcasts through podcasts RSS feeds. It compiles various online metrics and provides two scores – a “Listen Score,” which reflects your show’s popularity among other RSS feed podcasts, and a more crucial “Global Rank.” This rank is often used by podcasters to showcase their standing in the top percentage globally.
While the Listen Score is interesting, the Global Rank is where the real value lies. Many podcasters boast about being in the top percentage globally, and this is the metric they’re referring to. It comes from data gathered from global RSS feeds, offering you a percentage score to share online. This figure is often accurate, given that many podcasts aren’t consistently publishing episodes.
Take a moment to look up your own show and explore your score; it might be an easy win for you. On a personal note, I find Listen Notes particularly valuable for its less-known function of downloading published episodes. As an editor, this is extremely handy when I lack access to the podcaster’s distribution service but need to edit a file.
I hope this information is helpful!

Behind The Scenes
My life outside of work largely revolves around skiing and now that winter has hit Scotland I’m back in my element! This weekend I visited Glencoe Mountain Resort before the lifts opened and earned my turns, I walked up the mountain and skied back down the sheet ice! I loved every moment, the view was spectacular.
I hope that you will get a kick out of the Listen Notes “Global Rank” feature, it’s definitely fun to look at. Feel free to reach out if there is anything I can help you with.
Thanks,
Fynn Gentle.
